Networking and refreshments
Organisations of all sizes are showing a growing interest in corporate social responsibility (CSR). Definitions vary but generally CSR is taken to mean managing in a way that improves rather than damages society. This encompasses what can seem like a bewildering array of issues; from those associated with the environment to employment practices.
This free event is designed to encourage those working in events, tourism or hospitality to reflect upon how they could enable their organisations to make a positive contribution to their locality and how universities might help. Our three speakers will stimulate discussion by providing examples of CSR in practice.
The short presentations will be followed by discussions and networking. Refreshments will be provided free of charge.

Speakers
Sarah Dunwell, CEO CREATE Foundation (please click here for more information on CREATE)
CREATE is an award winning social enterprise, a business that is run intentionally not only to maximise profit but to maximise a positive social impact for the most marginalised in society. All its profits are re‐invested in achieving its social aims. CREATE is an independent ‘for‐more‐than‐profit’ Community Interest Company providing innovative training and employment opportunities for people who have been homeless, marginalised or vulnerable. Working in Leeds, Sunderland and Greater Manchester, CREATE staff and trainees are motivated to rebuild their lives: wanting a hand up, not a hand out.
Sarah has spent the last decade running highly successful small businesses, specialising in catering and food retail. A recent winner of the Yorkshire Businesswoman of the Year, Sarah now applies her skills to ensuring that CREATE delivers on its vision.
Jackie Mulligan, Director of enterprise, ICRETH
Jackie is the Director of Enterprise within ICRETH. Jackie is currently leading two major global studies for Meeting Professionals International (MPI) on Corporate Social Responsibility in the Meetings and Hospitality Industry and the Future of Meetings, a professional development project.
